About Oxford Clock and Watch Repairs
Oxford Clock and Watch Repairs is an independent workshop situated in Long Hanborough,
10 miles west of Oxford.
Oxford Clock and Watch Repairs is both old and new. Old because Neville Clark has repaired clocks for over 30 years, and new because Neville is now working exclusively from his workshop in Long Hanborough.
We offer a wide range of services, everything from fitting a new battery in your watch to a full overhaul of your clock including case restoration.
Neville Clark has lived in Oxfordshire all his life. He is a third-generation clock and watch repairer and began taking clocks apart and reassembling them as a child. He studied at the BHI (British Horological Institute) in Newark – gaining the honour of becoming an MBHI (Member of the British Horological Institute), a qualification that is only given to those who can achieve the highest standards of clock and watch repairs.
For the last 17 years Neville ran a successful jewellery shop, Isis Clocks and Jewellery in Kidlington, and would like to welcome clients both old and new to his workshop.
If you would like to visit the workshop please contact us to see how we can help and we will send you our details and arrange a suitable time.
The BHI (British Horological Institute) was first established in 1858 and since then they have set national standards of horological practice. They provide training and education for current and future generations of horologists and are now one of the last remaining providers of training and education for horology in the UK. They also act as a professional body for Britain’s clock and watchmakers as well as acting as a quasi-trade association.
The word 'horology ' comes from the Latin ‘horologium’ which is from the Greek word ‘hṓra’ meaning ‘hour’ or ‘time’ and therefore meaning ‘the study of time’. It is now used to describe the art, craft and science of making timepieces and of measuring time. Horologists are the people that make, repair, service, conserve and restore instruments that measure time. Most people will probably know them better as clock and watchmakers or repairers.
